We are The Greenwoods: Kevin, Briggs & Lawson. While we are your hosts and your haven away from home is our home, we are happy to have as much or as little interaction with you as you’d like. We are delighted to provide you with ideas for outings, answer questions about the area, even shop for your groceries before you arrive, or chat with you around a bonfire, but if you prefer solitude it’s not necessary to interact with us at all during your stay. Of course, we are always available via phone, text or email.

Haven at Greenwood Glen is a dream come true for our family. We have long dreamt and casually talked about living in the North Carolina mountains, but it always seemed like something in the future: after our nest was empty, after retirement, after grandkids — just AFTER.  In the fall of 2021, our after became NOW.  We are indescribably excited to host you on our lovely Blue Ridge Parkway property.

If the next thing on your list is to slow down and smell the fresh mountain air then the ‘Secluded Hideaway’ is just what you are looking for. You will be able to sit on the large covered front porch (8’X36′), back deck (8’X36′), side deck (11’X44′) and watch for birds, squirrels and deer and also roast marshmallows over the outdoor fire pit. This four bedroom and 2 bath cottage is perfect for large families (max of 8 people) and small alike. Pool and ping pong table combination in basement. The New River State Park Elk Shoals Access is just .3 mi from the front door across wooden bridge where you can swim, kayak, canoe and fish. Within 7 miles there are restaurants and shopping (Super Walmart, Family Dollar Store, Dollar Tree, Cato’s, Lowes), grocery stores (Food Lion, Ingles Grocery Store and Walmar), and numerous antique and craft shops and more. Other places of interest (Parkway Theater (6 mi),, Mt Jefferson State Park (6 mi), New River State Park Wagner Access (12 mi), Cheese Factory (6 mi), Church of the Frescoes (4 mi and 5 mi), Blue Ridge Parkway (4.5 mi), Boone NC (26 mi), Mast General Store (27 mi), Original Mast General Store (Valley Crucis 34 mi), Horn-in-the-West (Outdoor Drama Mid Jun-Mid Aug (26 mi), Tweetsie Railroad Amusement Park (Apr-Oct 30 mi), Blowing Rock (34 mi), Appalachian Ski Mtn (32 mi), Banner Elk and Linville Falls (60 mi), Linville Cravens (62 mi), Grandfather Mountain and Beech Mountain (55 mi) and free Blue Grass Music by local entertainers at the Phipps Old General Store (Lansing NC approx. 12 mi.) and Greenfields Camp Ground (beside Walmart). Historic Buffalo Tavern Bed and Breakfast is located in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains near West Jefferson, Todd, Glendale Springs, Jefferson, Blowing Rock and Boone, NC in Ashe County. There are numerous attractions: hiking, biking, canoeing, West Jefferson Arts District, fine dining restaurants, antique shops, the Fresco Paintings and the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is also plenty of time to kick back on the front porch and do absolutely nothing but enjoy the beautiful scenery.

New River Inn and Cabins is a peaceful location that recently updated and with 3 cozy cabins for vacation rental located in Glendale Springs, North Carolina. Our property includes a lodge for gathering as well as a pond with a walking trail. We are located just off the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway behind the Trading Post. Within a short driving distance to West Jefferson, Wilkesboro and 30 minute drive to Boone.

River House is not only a North Carolina Bed and Breakfast but a Country Inn that’s really in the country, located in Grassy Creek, North Carolina in the Blue Ridge mountains and directly on the historic New River. There’s a mile of riverfront for strolling, wading, tubing, canoeing and fishing. Brown trout and rainbows abound. Walking trails wind through 160 acres. Our neighbors include deer, rabbits, wild turkeys, a great blue heron, eagles and an occasional bear – just no mosquitoes.

Most of our twelve uniquely decorated guest rooms are converted farm buildings with king-size beds, private bathrooms, jacuzzis, art, books and country antiques.

That is reason enough to visit River House but the food is another. Elegant but unpretentious, the River House restaurant is known for its great food and ambiance. Only minutes from West Jefferson and forty-five minutes from Boone, River House is the first choice for fine dining in the Ashe County High Country area. The restaurant offers regional and international fine dining, an excellent wine list, and a full-service bar with all ABC permits. We are open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday. The Sunday Salon features live music, hors d’oeuvres and a four-course Chef’s choice menu. Reservations are essential.

Breakfast is served in the main house daily between 8:30 and 10:00. While it is complimentary for overnight guests, many local residents choose to book for private business meetings or simple personal enjoyment.

On-site lunches or picnic fare may be pre-arranged, a pleasant adjunct when renting our kayaks or canoes. We will take you up-river so you can take your time floating back to us.

While you are here at our Bed and Breakfast, visit nearby sites such as New River State Park, Grayson Highlands and Mt. Jefferson. Drive the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. Bike the popular Creeper Trail. Ride horseback at Burnt Hill Stables. Play golf at Mountain Aire Golf Course. Just two miles down the road is Landmark Alpaca Farm and it’s only seven to Phipps Store for incredible Friday night “pickin” (That’s music, not pig.). Shop for cheese, antiques, art and pottery in West Jefferson as well as in the River House Gallery or Dairy Barn.

But… one of the most popular things to do is absolutely nothing. Relax in rocking chairs on the front porch or in chaises under the big sycamore tree overlooking the river. All rooms have wi-fi. Our buildings date back to the 1870’s, thus we are only partially ADA accessible.

This king suite includes a king bed in the 16 x 24 tent as well as an extended deck that includes an adjoining 13 ft diameter queen tent. This king suite can sleep up to six: King bed x 2, Queen bed x 2, and room for 2 camping cots. The two glamping tents share a spacious deck and is perfect for families with children or couples who want to stay in close proximity to one another. These two tents share the en-suite bathroom and shower as well as the cooler and grill. This 16 x 24 king glamping tent is furnished with a handcrafted king size bed, luxury linens and blankets, wood stove, and en-suite bathroom/shower. It comes equipped with a solar awning to provide power and lighting within the tent. It has a covered spacious deck overlooking Big Laurel Creek complete with a custom fire pit and Blackstone propane grill (propane provided). A large capacity cooler and coffee bar are also provided. Gem Valley LLC is a family-owned business just minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Founded in 2006 by Debbi Farmer and Harry Davis, Gem Valley is the only public panning facility in Ashe County, NC. We are located near the historical Ore Knob Mine that was in operation from the mid 1800’s to the mid 1900’s. Our creeks feed into the New River, which is the second-oldest river in the world!
