Local Travel Guide

Although we enjoy an excellent reputation with local Ashe County folks, we find many people discover us accidentally as they visit the High Country. The reason: we are only a stone’s throw from the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you are driving a car, riding a bicycle, or cruising the Parkway on your Harley, we are easy to find and convenient to returning to the scenic byway.

Another reason people find us is that we are located right along the roadway that leads to the quaint village of Glendale Springs. People come from far and wide to see Ben Long’s famous frescoes, housed in the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Glendale Springs. After they visit the frescoes, many enjoy shopping for gifts or souvenirs, taking in the quiet natural beauty of this small mountain village.

canoe-smIt isn’t much further to drive into West Jefferson if shopping is what you like. West Jefferson is famous for it’s art galleries and specialty gift shops. And if golf is your sport we have two wonderful golf courses; one at Jefferson Landing , the other Mountain Aire Golf Course.

During the warmer months we have a constant flow of visitors who are camping, hiking or canoeing in the New River Valley. We are close to Doughton Park, The New River State Park, and Racoon Hollar campground. In the fall people come from all over the world to enjoy the breathtaking autumn colors that are best viewed from scenic overviews along the Blue Ridge Parkway. In winter, a favorite family outing in the area would be to Choose and Cut a Christmas Tree at one of many family owned tree farms.

frescoesTaking just an easy 30 minute drive from Mountain Aire Seafood and Steaks Restaurant you can find yourself in Blowing Rock, Boone, Grandfather Mountain, or at one of our great High Country Ski Resorts. Whether you are staying a week or just a weekend, please include us in your special vacation plans. We promise you will be happy you tried us out!
